Good morning, Quiet Corner Swarm! Today is Tuesday 8/19, and that means it’s National Potato Day! Boil ‘em, mash ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew (that one was for you LOTR fans out there). Speaking of which, I want to hear from you, who has the best French fries (curly, steak, shoestring, sweet potato…let me know about all of them!)?

🚨CONN-OPOLY UPDATE🚨

We’re tightening the screws on the final design after shuffling a few spaces. The fun twist? We’re dropping in the original names of famous Connecticut universities. Think “Collegiate School (Yale),” “Connecticut Agricultural College (UCONN),” and “Washington College (Trinity College).”

It’s history nerd candy and it looks 🔥 on the board. Take a glimpse below👇

BUZZ & TELL

🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Champion - a tall, gold-medal-happy goofball who crushes training games and scent work, and is so ready for a forever couch.

🏡 Dream house of the week: A 41-acre 1850 stone estate with a slate roof, seven fireplaces, a chef’s kitchen (Thermador + original Walker & Pratt stove), greenhouse, and a heated pool, bordered by Audubon land - basically Downton Abbey in the Quiet Corner. Check it out!

🥾Trail of the week: Wolf Den Trail, Mashamoquet Brook SP (Pomfret): A quick, piney loop to the storied Wolf Den cave with brook sounds and sneaky overlooks—perfect after-work miles. Park at Wolf Den Campground & Park HQ, 147 Wolf Den Dr, Pomfret Center or (main lots also near 303 Mashamoquet Rd off US-44).

🔭Sky report: Pre-dawn is the show: look east around 4–5am to spot brilliant Venus with Jupiter nearby, while Saturn is up by evening and easy to find through the week. With the new moon on Aug 23, skies go extra dark - great for viewing the Milky Way and a few lingering Perseids.
