UPDATE

Buzz Card: I’ve secured 8 great discounts for you across Windham County. I’m only printing 100 of these so it’s a first come first served basis. The Buzz Card is priced at $20 as the discounts will far exceed that value if you put it to use.

However, for the next 24 hours I’ve reduced the price to $15 so get them while they’re hot. The funds from these cards will help me grow this community and keep creating content that hopefully adds more fun to your life.

HIVE CHARITY

If you ever feel like swapping your screen time for some serene time, the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Pomfret (218 Day Rd) is where it’s at. I’m sure you’ve seen the signs for it if you’ve ever driven through Pomfret, but did you know that it’s home to the sprawling 700-acre Bafflin Sanctuary? Think meadows, woodlands, and trails that’ll make you want to throw your phone into a river (in a good way). They also run the nearby Trail Wood Sanctuary, once home to naturalist Edwin Way Teale, which is basically a live-action nature diary.

But this place isn’t just a pretty face. The Center’s all about conservation, education, and getting people knee-deep (sometimes literally) in the natural world. They offer school programs, bird walks, workshops, and even volunteer gigs if you’re feeling extra earthy. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just figuring out which end of the binoculars to look through, they’ll make you feel right at home.

Do yourself a favor and grab the free Merlin Bird ID app created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology — it’s like Shazam for birds, and trust me, it makes spotting those little guys way more fun.

PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Ramsey Shay, a 6-year-old Aussie Kelpie mix with zero Labrador in her—despite coming through Lucky Lab Rescue. After years of raising Labs, Nancy and her husband decided to try the rescue route following their last pup’s passing in 2020. They were holding off until retirement in June 2021… but in May, right as Nancy was about to call Lucky Lab and say “we’re ready,” the phone rang. The rescue had found a dog they thought was perfect—and her name? Shay, just like their daughter. Total sign. So now, thanks to some cosmic timing and a clever name compromise, Ramsey Shay is living her best life as the newest member of the family.
