Good morning, Quiet Corner Swarm!

Happy Tuesday, May 25th. Somehow, today is apparently National Paper Airplane Day, which I will admit was not circled on my calendar between “pay bills” and “remember where I left my sunglasses.”

But in the spirit of tiny distractions that are weirdly fun, we’ve got a cool new game for you to test out below. Give it a try, see if you can crack it, and let me know if your brain is still functioning after the long weekend.

In Today’s Quiet Corner Buzz:

  • 50+ Couples Dinner

  • Farmers Market Field Guide

  • Buzzword

  • Funky Monkey Artisan Fair

  • Buzz & Tell

  • 50+ Local Events

Let’s dive in!

50+ COUPLES DINNER

We polled you previously and there was definitely interest in this idea, so I’m making it happen.

We’re putting together a special 50+ Couples Dinner in June for local couples who want a relaxed night out, good food, and actual conversation with new faces.

The dinner would take place on either Tuesday, June 9th or Tuesday, June 16th, and we’ll cap it at 15 couples (3 couples per table) so it stays fun, personal, and not like some awkward hotel ballroom mixer.

The booking fee would be $25 per couple, which includes your spot and a welcome drink, like house wine or beer. You’d pay for your own dinner at the restaurant.

FARMERS MARKET FIELD GUIDE

Windham and Tolland County farmers market season is officially kicking into high gear, which means fresh strawberries, crusty bread, local honey, and at least one “I’m just browsing” trip that ends with a tote bag full of vegetables you suddenly feel emotionally attached to.

We put together a Quiet Corner Farmers Market Guide so you can shop local, eat better, and pretend you’re only grabbing a few things before leaving with flowers, jam, pickles, and a loaf of sourdough big enough to need its own seatbelt.

Support the farms. Support the makers. Support the tiny tomatoes that somehow taste like summer slapped the grocery store version across the face.

GET FEATURED
Bee Seen.

Every week, thousands of Quiet Corner Buzz readers open this thing looking for their next meal, weekend plan, hidden gem or a trusted local service they can actually rely on. Get your business in front of a highly engaged audience that’s already paying attention and ready to take action.

QUIET CORNER GAMES

I’m working on a little home base for all the weirdly addictive local games we’ve been cooking up, including crosswords, Buzzword (our very Connecticut-ish Wordle-style game), and a stash of previous local trivia questions so you can see how much Windham and Tolland County knowledge is rattling around in your brain.

I’ll let you know when the full thing is ready, but for now, you can take Buzzword Vol. 1 for a spin and try to guess the word. No pressure, but your Quiet Corner credibility may or may not be on the line.

FUNKY MONKEY ARTISAN FAIR

Andover | Sat. June 6 | 10AM–3PM

Mark your calendars, because the Funky Monkey Artisan Fair is turning 10 and taking over Andover with a full creative campus from Over AndOver to Scott’s Tree Farm. Expect artisan vendors, food trucks, live music, maker market finds, and the Gift Basket Bonanza supporting Shine Your Light CT.

Parking is at 11 Bunker Hill Road. Grab a friend and go get funky.

BUZZ & TELL

🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Iris, a 1-year-old Husky/Cattle Dog mix with adventure-buddy energy, social butterfly manners, and the kind of happy-go-lucky personality that makes every walk feel like a field trip

🏡House of the week: This 1760 antique Colonial, known as the Dr. Jeremiah West House, comes with real-deal Connecticut history, a fireplace, walk-up attic, and nearly 2,000 square feet of “yes, this house has stories” energy. Sitting right on a historic green with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, central air, and a .67-acre lot, it’s basically old New England charm with just enough modern comfort to avoid churning your own butter. Check it out!

👀Sighting of the week: A Rose-breasted Grosbeak: Pheucticus ludovicianus

🔭Sky report: This week brings a rare little moon combo: a Blue Moon that’s also a Micro Moon, which sounds made up but somehow isn’t. Translation: it’s the second full moon of the month, but it’ll look a touch smaller because it’s hanging out near its farthest point from Earth. Peak glow hits early Sunday morning, but your best bet is to look Saturday night or Sunday night when it climbs up over the trees like it knows it has a fancy title.
