Good morning, Quiet Corner Swarm!
Today is Monday, March 3rd, and somehow it’s National Anthem Day, which feels like a solid excuse to take a breath, put your hand over your heart (or your Dunkin), and remember that no matter what chaos is swirling around out there, we’re still Americans. Not in a loud, chest-thumping way, more in a “we’ve been through a lot, we’re still here, and we still know how to show up for each other” kind of way.
In Today’s Quiet Corner Buzz:

Let’s dive in!

It’s the inaugural Mutt Madness and we’re building the bracket right now. We’ve got 8 spots open, and if we get a bunch more entries, we’ll expand the tournament size.
How it works:
8 spots open (first come, first entered)
If entries keep coming, we’ll grow the bracket (16, 32, etc.)
We drop matchups in the newsletter and readers vote
Voting starts next Tuesday’s newsletter with a link to cast your vote
Winners advance each round until we crown the champ and feature your pup
To enter: click the button below and fill out the simple form with your name, email, your dog’s name, and the best photo you can find.

BRIEF BITES
Brialee Family Campground in Ashford just snagged the No. 1 spot on Campspot’s “Top Unique Campgrounds in 2026” list thanks to its warm, welcoming vibe, sandy beach, live music, fishing, boat rentals and cabins that make camping feel like a full-on getaway.

Dinner Club is back in West Hartford on March 19th at 6:30 pm, and it’s the easiest way to meet new people without doing the awkward “so… what do you do?” thing in a loud bar. Take a quick personality quiz, get matched with 5 others, then show up to a surprise restaurant and get the after-hours location texted out later. You cover your tab, and it’s $16 to lock your seat. Come hungry, leave with new neighbors.
Looks like we didn’t quite hit the numbers for a Mansfield/Windham Dinner Club this round, so we’re pressing pause for now.

BUZZ & TELL
🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Sir Bombay Chai, a cuddly lap king who needs a no-chicken wet-food diet and would love to be your one-and-only.
🏡House of the week: Big natural-light energy with cathedral ceilings + skylights, plus a deck and sunroom setup that basically begs for coffee (or chaos) year-round. Bonus points for the finished lower level rooms and a 2-car garage with extra storage. Check it out!
🔭Sky report: Jupiter dominates the evening sky, glowing bright and steady toward the south. Orion still rules early evenings, and as nights warm up a little, look higher for Leo’s sickle shape and its bright star Regulus.

Support Connecticut Buzz and have an absurdly fun snow-day showdown with CONN-OPOLY, our CT-themed board game where you buy, trade, and build across real Nutmeg towns, landmarks, and industries like you’re time-traveling with dice. Every box also comes with a free digital Field Guide that turns each space into a bite-size CT history lesson, so you can learn something while you crush your family.
Conn-opoly is available wholesale too, making it a no-brainer for shop owners looking for a local bestseller or anyone running a fundraiser that actually gets people excited to open their wallets. Reach out!

HELP THE HORSES
If you can spare a few bucks this week, our friends at Hay Burr Inn Equine Rescue & Sanctuary (an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) in Plainfield that rehabilitates neglected and at-risk horses) could really use the help.
Their hay house roof collapsed under heavy snow, and they’re raising money to rebuild it so thousands of pounds of hay stay dry for the rescued horses and donkeys. If you’ve ever loved an animal that needed a second chance, this is a good place to put your support.

WIND CO TRIVIA🤔
In 1796, Plainfield physician Elisha Perkins received one of the earliest medical patents in U.S. history for a device known as "Metallic Tractors." What was this invention specifically designed to do?
- Mechanically pull and reset dislocated joints through magnetic tension D) Inject liquid mer
- Measure the heart's rhythm using the newly discovered "animal magnetism."
- "Draw out" disease and pain by stroking the skin to redirect electrical fluids.
- Inject liquid mercury directly into the pores via pressurized metal tips.

3 DAYS. 0 DRIVING.

Last week’s trivia was a grinder: only 46.06% of you got it right, and yep, Governor Ella Grasso officially shut down Connecticut roads to non-essential travel for 3 days during the Blizzard of ’78. Three days where “quick run to the store” wasn’t a thing, and Windham County basically turned into a snow-locked island with drifts piled high and every back road suddenly optional.
Out here, it was the kind of storm that turns neighbors into lifelines. Roads disappeared, travel stopped, and the whole state hit pause until crews could dig things back out.
Big shoutout to our reader Max L. for sending over a short documentary on the storm.
