Good morning, Quiet Corner Swarm!
Today is Tuesday, May 12th, which means it’s National Limerick Day, because apparently even poetry gets a weird little holiday. I couldn’t find a confirmed local writer who penned a Quiet Corner limerick, so naturally, I made one myself.

LOCAL LIMERICK
There once was a place, quiet but scrappy,
Where small-town gossip made everyone happy.
From Putnam to Storrs,
We’re nosy, of course,
And somehow still charmingly yappy.
~Tyler D.

LET’S LEARN MAHJONG

We officially locked in our first Let’s Learn Mahjong event, and yes, I am already emotionally attached to those little tiles.
Join us June 3 at 6PM in Glastonbury for a beginner-friendly class taught by professional Mahjong teachers. You’ll learn the original Chinese style of the game, which sets the foundation for American Mahjong, aka the version your aunt’s friend probably dominates at every Tuesday.
Seats are limited to 40, and location details will be shared soon. Don’t wait on this one, because if it sells out fast, we’ll work on bringing a Windham/Tolland County version next.

FARM FIELD GUIDE
Farm season is officially waking up, which means it’s time to start buying strawberries, greens, eggs, meat, dairy, and whatever else makes your grocery store produce section look deeply suspicious.
I put together a local guide with 39 farms where you can find fresh produce, meat, and dairy around the area. Reply to this email and let me know any great ones I missed

QUIET CORNER TRIVIA🤔

This month’s Dinner Club is happening May 21st at 6:30pm in Manchester, and it’s your official excuse to get out of the house on a random weeknight. Come meet new people, eat something good, and enjoy one of those low-pressure nights that somehow turns into the thing you’re glad you didn’t skip.

BUZZ & TELL
🐶Adopt-a-pal: Meet Carma, a 2-month-old Lab/Rottweiler mix with wrinkle rolls for days, full-body puppy wiggles, and the kind of sweet little face that feels wildly unfair to anyone trying “just to look.”
🏡 Dream house of the week: This 21-acre country estate comes with a heated gunite pool, pool house, skating pond, gardens, fenced pastures, and a reconstructed 1800s post-and-beam barn with eight stalls. Inside, it’s got five Rumford fireplaces, a Wolf/Sub-Zero kitchen, private bedroom suites, an in-law apartment, and enough “wait, it has that too?” details to make Zillow scrolling feel like a competitive sport. Check it out!
🥾Trail of the week: Trail Wood — Edwin Way Teale Memorial Sanctuary (Hampton). 168 acres of meadows, beaver ponds, and easy loop trails on the former homestead of a Pulitzer Prize–winning naturalist, now run by CT Audubon - peak warblers and wildflowers right now, and Hampton almost never gets the spotlight. Free, dawn to dusk, 93 Kenyon Rd.
🔭Sky report: The moon mostly gets out of the way this week, with a New Moon on Sunday, May 17, making the weekend prime time for darker skies. Look west after sunset for bright Venus and Jupiter, then east before dawn if you’re weirdly awake enough to catch Saturn and Mars.

FEATURED EVENTS

Willimantic’s biggest outdoor beer party is back on Sunday, May 17 from 1–5pm at Jillson Field, celebrating 11 years of good cheer and questionable sample-count math. Expect 60+ breweries, cideries, wineries, meaderies, and distilleries, plus food trucks, vendors, cornhole, DJ tunes, and a whole lot of people pretending they’re “just here to support local.” Best part: profits support local community organizations.
Putnam’s First Street Art Festival

Putnam is turning Main Street into one big sidewalk canvas on Saturday, May 16 from 10am to 4pm for its first-ever Street Art Festival, part of Fairy & Magic Fest. Eighteen artists will get giant boxes of chalk and go to work downtown, with prizes up for grabs. Add in 47 vendors, magicians, strolling entertainers, miniature ponies, dancing witches, face painting, and a costume contest, and yeah, Putnam understood the assignment.
